Taking a shower might sound straight forward, but if you are an athlete trying to prevent or fight off a skin infection, there are a few steps to take to get the most out of your FIGHT SOAP.
TURN OFF THE WATER: I learned this as a "submarine shower", or a water saving shower. On a sub, fresh water is limited, so the idea is to turn on the water, rinse off, turn the water back off. Then scrub down with your soap head to toe. Quickly rinse off again and you are out of there.
There are 2 huge benefits to this, obviously you save water, but the second, and most important for us here is that it allows the soap to sit on your skin and "dwell". 1 to 2 minute dwell time allows the active ingredients in FIGHT SOAP to go to work.
-
Effective Cleaning: Soaps need time to break down dirt, oils, and other contaminants. Allowing the soap to dwell ensures these substances are loosened and can be easily rinsed away.
-
Antibacterial and Antimicrobial Action: FIGHT SOAP contains antibacterial agents, the dwell time allows these agents to penetrate cell walls of bacteria or microorganisms, helping to kill or neutralize them. Short dwell times may not give these agents enough time to work.
-
Inactivation of Viruses: To target viruses (flu/covid etc...), the dwell time allows the soap to break down the virus's lipid envelope, rendering it inactive. Without proper dwell time, the soap may not be fully effective in inactivating the virus.
-
Maximizes Soap Efficiency: Allowing soap to dwell for the recommended amount of time optimizes its chemical action, ensuring it achieves its full potential in cleaning or disinfecting.
In essence, dwell time is crucial for the soap to interact with contaminants and pathogens thoroughly, ensuring effective cleaning and hygiene.
CLEAN YOUR KIT: You can have the cleanest ass around, but if your kit is dirty and full of bacteria and fungi, no soap in the world is going to stop skin infections as soon as you are training again. Yes, we make GEAR SPRAY, but that alone isn't enough after those hard training days. Properly deep cleaning kit, gear, helmets, gloves, shoes etc.. is essential for personal hygiene.
When I get super sweaty during training, I'll jump in the shower with my kit still on and suds it up with some Brazilian Bully or Bloody Murder body wash. I find this to be incredibly effective at reducing residual stink after machine washing. Which brings me on to another point, find a good laundry detergent meant for active wear if you are wearing lycra, yoga pants, or other synthetic based "moisture wicking" fabrics. They hold onto bacteria like you wouldn't believe. (maybe we need to make laundry detergent next...)
Hope this helps!
